Gilbert launches the next chapter of ‘Gilbert Is’, a campaign showing the magic of Rugby through the lens of community clubs - celebrating grassroots heroes, powerful personalities and emotional stories.
Robertsbridge, September 2024 – On the eve of the new Northern Hemisphere rugby season, Gilbert launches a new pillar to the ‘Gilbert Is’ campaign, with ‘Gilbert Is Rugby’, aiming to showcase some of the forgotten - and often unseen - magic that our sport brings. This self-effacing series puts Gilbert at the centre of the community game - the very lifeblood of our sport.
Dating back to 1823 and celebrating its bicentenary last year, Gilbert has a unique heritage with William Gilbert supplying some of the very first rugby balls to Rugby School, when William Webb Ellis first picked up the ball and ran with it. Today, Gilbert continues to support rugby at all levels of the game – from Rugby World Cups to the grassroots game.
The latest ‘Gilbert Is Rugby’ campaign features some of the characters that every rugby club is lucky to have. From those indefatigable volunteers and those one-club legends that have grown up with the club, to those that have come through some dark times with the support of their team mates; the campaign tells the stories that every rugby club and every rugby player can relate to. A series of nine stories in total will be released throughout the season.
Group Head of Marketing Lex Lambrou, “Over the last 12 months, ‘Gilbert Is’ has helped us showcase our Product, Players, Teamwear and Union partnerships. Now, we are very excited to showcase Gilbert Rugby both literally and figuratively at the centre of Rugby, in the hands of our grassroots heroes.”
Gilbert Rugby Marketing and Partnerships Lead, Gary Edmunds adds: “Last year Gilbert was privileged to celebrate 200 years, today we are privileged to continue supporting the game that has given us so much.
The passion, support and love of the rugby community is like no other. The friendships, family and memories you build on and off the pitch at your local rugby club last forever. It’s the people you meet and the people that support the local club game that make it so special. We hope that this next evolution of our ‘Gilbert Is Rugby’ campaign starts to highlight some of this magic.”
