It's International Women's Day and in the last few years alone, women's rugby has grown at a phenomenal rate. Last year, we made a pledge to do more to support female athletes and we've done just that.
THE LAST 365 DAYS…
Today, there are around 2.7 million female rugby players around the world. Last year, we told the world that we wanted to do more to support female athletes, that this was the year of change. Let's reflect on what we've done over the last 365 days.
NEW ATHLETES
In 2022, two exciting athletes joined our Gilbert family...
CLAUDIA MACDONALD
This fantastic English rugby union scrum-half plays for the England Red Roses and club rugby for Exeter Chiefs. Claudia was a superstar in the RWC 2021, and is passionate about sustainability - check out her 'Lets Talk 1%', where she talks all about sustainability.
SADIA KABEYA
Sadia is an English rugby union player, playing for England internationally and Loughborough Lightning in the Allianz Premier 15s, where she juggles full-time studying with full-time rugby! Sadia has (quite rightly) been described as one of the best sevens in the world!
GILBERT IS RWC 2021
In the lead up to the RWC 2021 tournament, we released our 'Gilbert is RWC 2021' global campaign.
We released powerful statements with powerful imagery featuring powerful athletes - promoting the tournament and the women's game.
WORKING WITH THE RED ROSES
As the official ball and equipment supplier to England Rugby, we've continued to work with the Red Roses over the course of the year and get some invaluable feedback on how we can support female athletes more.
